Friends of Douglas County K-9 hosts this incredible event each year in support of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit.
We are committed to making a difference in our community. And, sponsoring the Howling Good Time Gala is just one of the ways we do that.
Why We Support the K-9 Unit
We understand the importance of the K-9 unit and the unique bond between these dogs and their handlers. Our team is honored to be part of an event that celebrates their hard work and dedication.
Established in 1989, the DCSO K-9 Unit now consists of seven Deputy/K-9 teams. The K-9 unit is more than just a group of highly trained dogs! They are heroes on four paws. These K-9 officers work alongside their human counterparts to protect and serve our community, performing duties that range from search and rescue to detecting narcotics and apprehending criminals. Their dedication and bravery are unmatched, and we are proud to support them in any way we can.
About the 2024 Howling Good Time Gala

LOCATION: Cielo Events Center at Castle Pines, Colorado
The Howling Good Time Gala annually brings together community members, local businesses, and law enforcement to raise funds for the DCSO K-9 unit. The evening promises to be filled with entertainment, heartfelt stories, and opportunities to learn more about the vital role these dogs play in keeping our community safe.
While the DSCO funds vehicles and its deputies’ salaries, your community donations fund nearly all of the DCSO K-9 Unit’s costs. Plus, when a DCSO K-9 retires, the deputy who has worked with the dog always purchases him or her from the DSCO for $1. After this, that deputy becomes the dog’s owner and is completely responsible for the dog’s care. Care often includes extensive and costly veterinary and medical services. K-9 Friends works tirelessly to provide retired hero dogs with exceptional veterinary care. This relieves the need for the deputy owner to pay the high costs.
By attending or supporting this event, you’re not only enjoying a night out but also contributing to a cause that directly impacts the safety and well-being of everyone in Douglas County.

- Access to the silent and live auctions (including unique experiences such as blowing things up with the DCSO bomb squad, a dizzying array of specialty bourbons and whiskeys, and one-of-a-kind gifts like art, sports memorabilia, backyard grilling, and more)
